The catalogue

What exactly is a catalogue?
A catalogue is a database that lists all the resources held within collections of the Learning Commons.

By using the catalogue, you are able to find out:

  • which branch has a particular item
  • which collection an item is located in
  • the location on the shelf (using the call number - explained later in this tutorial)
  • whether the item is on the shelf or on loan.
The catalogue does not index articles within journals, it only provides a catalogue record for the title of the journal. If you want to find journal articles, you need to use a journal database.
